Job Description

Dis-Chem Pharmacies is offering a Dispensary Support Learnership Programme 2026 at its Thatchfield store for unemployed matriculants interested in building a career in the pharmaceutical and healthcare sector.

This entry-level pharmacy learnership is designed to train learners through the Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course, equipping candidates with practical and theoretical knowledge of pharmaceutical services, dispensing procedures, stock control, and customer care within a retail pharmacy environment.

Successful applicants will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support staff while completing their training and registration with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Permanent employment may be offered after qualifying as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric or Senior Certificate
  • Minimum 50% in:
    • Pure Mathematics
    • Life Sciences and/or Physical Sciences
    • South African citizen
    • Clear criminal and credit record
    • Must pass a proficiency test required for SAPC learner registration

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pharmacists with dispensing and preparation of medication
  • Support the sale of Schedule 1 medicines under pharmacist supervision
  • Help with stock control, merchandising, shelf packing, and expiry date checks
  • Accurately pick, pack, label, and organize medication
  • Assist with script tracking and patient follow-ups
  • Support chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorizations
  • Handle customer service and dispensary-related calls
  • Maintain dispensary cleanliness and compliance with SOPs
  • Report stock shortages and discrepancies to management
