This opportunity is aimed at individuals who are passionate about building a career in the mining industry and are eager to gain hands-on experience through structured learning and practical training.
If you’re looking to pursue a mining career and meet the criteria below, this programme is your first step toward becoming a qualified miner at South Deep Gold Mine.
Who Can Apply for the South Deep Gold Mine Learnerships 2025?
To qualify as a candidate from our Host Communities, you must meet one of the following conditions:
- Residency: Be a permanent resident of one of the South Deep Host
- Communities: Bekkersdal, Zuurberkom, Thusanang, Hillshaven, Westonaria, Poortjie, Simunye, Kalbasfontein, or Jachtfontein.
OR
- Education: Have successfully completed Grade 12 (Matric) at a school located within one of the above Host Communities.
About the Learner Miner Learnership Programme
The South Deep Learnership Programme provides practical, work-based training that equips learners with the knowledge, skills, and experience needed to thrive in the mining industry. Upon completion, participants will be well-prepared and more employable in various mining roles.
Minimum Entry Requirements for the South Deep Gold Mine Learnerships 2025
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification (NQF Level 4 or N3) with two languages passed
- Minimum 2 years of experience working in a mining environment
- Pass a Heat Tolerance Screening Test and any other required assessments relevant to the mining environment
Key Competencies and Responsibilities
- Commitment to health and safety regulations on the mine
- Participate fully in all technical training as required by the Mining Qualifications Authority (MQA) and DMRE
- Maintain consistent performance during scheduled technical evaluations
- Show initiative in career development and engage in discussions with mentors and supervisors
- Collaborate with HRD and technical teams for ongoing performance feedback
- Comply with company policies, code of conduct, and employment conditions
- Exhibit strong teamwork, reliability, and a positive work ethic

- Proficient in English (oral and written) communication
