Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme – Cape Town & Saldanha Terminals
Transnet is offering Non-Technical Work Integrated Learnerships (WIL) for 2026, providing an excellent opportunity for students and recent graduates to gain valuable workplace experience in a structured and professional environment. This 18-month Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme is designed to bridge the gap between academic studies and real-world work experience, significantly improving participants’ employability.
The learnerships will be based at Transnet terminals in Cape Town and Saldanha, offering exposure to one of South Africa’s leading state-owned logistics and transport companies.
Programme Purpose
The Transnet Work Integrated Learning Trainee Programme aims to equip students and graduates with practical, hands-on workplace experience aligned with their field of study. Participants will have the opportunity to apply theoretical knowledge in real operational settings while receiving mentorship and on-the-job training.
Through this programme, learners will:
- Gain industry-relevant work experience

- Build confidence in a corporate work environment
The programme runs for 18 months, ensuring comprehensive exposure to various operational and administrative functions.
Key Responsibilities and Position Outputs
Task Execution
- Assist with specific projects within assigned departments or work streams
- Perform routine operational tasks under supervision
- Support administrative duties, including documentation, filing, and reporting
Learning and Development
- Participate in structured training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes
- Shadow experienced professionals to gain practical industry insights
- Take part in problem-solving activities to strengthen analytical and critical-thinking skills
Communication and Collaboration
- Interact with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to understand business requirements
- Provide regular progress updates on assigned tasks and projects
- Act as a point of contact for queries and general assistance within the department
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to Transnet policies, procedures, and safety regulations at all times
- Maintain ethical and professional conduct
- Ensure confidentiality, integrity, and accuracy in all assigned tasks
Research and Analysis
- Conduct market research, data collection, and basic analysis to support decision-making
- Compile reports and presentations using Microsoft Office tools
- Assist in process improvement and operational efficiency initiatives
Minimum Qualifications and Requirements
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
- Matric Certificate or equivalent
- N6 qualification in:
- Public Relations and Communications
- Journalism
- Or any other related qualification
- Must be a South African citizen
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- Preference will be given to People with Disabilities
- Must not have a bursary obligation with another company
- Must provide certified copies of:
- Matric certificate
- Academic record
- South African ID
- TVET College experiential learning letter
