About the Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnerships 2025 

The Dis-Chem Learnership Programme is designed to develop future pharmaceutical professionals by offering structured learning, both theoretical and practical, in a real-world dispensary setting. Learners will complete a Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course and gain practical work experience under the guidance of qualified pharmacists.

Learners will be employed on a fixed-term contract as Dispensary Support staff until they are officially registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC). Upon successful completion of the learnership and SAPC registration, learners may be offered permanent employment within Dis-Chem Pharmacies.

Key Responsibilities

As a Dispensary Support Learner, your duties will include:

  • Selling Schedule 1 medicines or scheduled substances
  • Assisting in the compounding, manipulation, or preparation of non-sterile medicines under pharmacist supervision
  • Unpacking and merchandising pharmaceutical stock
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of dispensary and OTC (Over-the-Counter) areas
  • Interpreting prescriptions and ensuring accurate picking, packing, labelling, and checking of medication
  • Supporting stock control processes and monitoring expiry dates
  • Tracking prescriptions and scheduling patient follow-ups
  • Handling call centre scripts and telephone support for patients
  • Providing general health-related information and guidance to customers
  • Assisting with medical aid scheme authorizations (e.g., chronic, HIV/AIDS, oncology meds)
  • Reporting stock issues or low stock levels to the Dispensary Manager
  • Receiving dispensary stock in line with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Dispensary Support Learnership, you must meet the following criteria:

  • Grade 12 (Matric) certificate with:
    • Pure Mathematics
    • Physical Science or Life Science
    • Minimum average of 50% in Matric subjects

Skills and Competencies

Ideal candidates should possess the following attributes:

  • Proficient in English and a second South African language
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent time management, attention to detail, and ability to work under pressure
  • Team player with good problem-solving and conflict management skills
