SBV YES 4 Youth Learnerships 2026 (Cash Processing Learnership Programme)

The SBV YES 4 Youth Learnership Programme 2026 offers young South Africans an opportunity to gain valuable cash handling, banking operations, and financial services experience. This programme is designed to help unemployed youth develop workplace skills while supporting the YES (Youth Employment Service) initiative.

Successful candidates will be trained in cash processing, reconciliation, note sorting, and banking system operations while complying with SBV operational standards and security procedures.

Key Performance Areas (KPAs)

Cash Receiving

  • Receive customer deposits and capture transactions on the applicable systems.
  • Ensure strict compliance with company policies and procedures to reduce risks for both SBV and its customers.

Cash Preparation

  • Inspect containers or deposit bags for damage or tampering and report anomalies to the Team Controller.
  • Acknowledge containers or bags on the relevant processing system.
  • Process deposits according to bank Service Level Agreements (SLAs) and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Prepare the workstation accurately to ensure efficient and accurate note counting.

Note Sorting and Processing

  • Sort prepared notes and deposits for FDP and ACDP processing within daily cut-off times.
  • Send rejected notes to the Reject Teller with supporting documentation for verification and balancing.
  • Display a board with the client name, date, denominations, bundle count, and operator name to the camera.
  • Balance each deposit and report discrepancies to the Team Controller.
  • Complete production sheets and maintain records of machine downtime.
  • Ensure end-of-day bundle verification and reconciliation by the Team Controller.

Reconciliation of ACDP Deposits

  • Reconcile rejected notes to verify transaction accuracy.
  • Manually inspect notes for counterfeit, dye-stained, or mutilated currency.
  • Transfer cash to vaults when required.
  • Complete daily balancing and reconciliation of all processed cash.
  • Handle shortages and surpluses in accordance with SBV Standard Operating Procedures.

Desktop Deposit Processing

  • Inspect deposit containers for damage or tampering and report issues.
  • Capture and acknowledge deposits on the system.
  • Ensure all deposits remain separated per customer.
  • Process all deposits on the same day they are received.
  • Perform end-of-day balancing and reconciliation of transactions.

Coin Processing and Sachet Operations

  • Process bulk coin deposits according to SBV policies and procedures.
  • Sort and process teller coin transfers.
  • Verify bins, seals, and denominations before counting.
  • Balance deposits per client and report discrepancies.
  • Clear machine jams and ensure accurate coin processing.
  • Complete daily balancing and reconciliation.

Bank System Integrated Deposit Processing

  • Validate all system-integrated transactions according to bank SLAs.
  • Notify Client Services of account numbers not linked to bank systems.
  • Verify deposit account numbers to avoid posting errors.
  • Escalate system downtime or delayed batches to the Team Controller.

Payroll and Change Processing

  • Process payroll and change orders according to customer SLAs.
  • Report discrepancies immediately to the Team Controller.
  • Seal floats in secure drop safe bags with packing slips.
  • Ensure payroll entries meet bank processing deadlines.
  • Maintain equipment and report faults when necessary.
  • Obtain bank authorization before dispatching cash as required.

Prepack and Treasury Support

  • Assist with packing and unpacking bank and ATM cash accurately.
  • Manage consumables used for packing operations.
  • Verify bag numbers and seal numbers for accurate record-keeping.

Equipment Management

  • Operate equipment according to SBV Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Protect company assets by ensuring machines are cleaned before and after shifts.

Governance and Compliance

  • Adhere to ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management Standards within SBV Services.
  • Support the company’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives.
  • Ensure all operational processes comply with internal quality and risk standards.

Organisational Culture and Change Management

  • Promote SBV’s values and contribute to a positive organisational culture.
  • Support business continuity during operational changes.
  • Assist with integrating processes and communicating updates to team members.
  • Participate in workshops and information sessions to ensure consistent communication across teams.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • Grade 12 (Matric) with Mathematics Literacy

Work Experience

  • 6 months cashier or teller experience (advantageous but not mandatory)
