Transnet is offering Technical Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Learnerships for 2026, aimed at students and recent graduates who want to gain practical workplace experience in a professional, industry-based environment. This 12-month learnership programme is designed to bridge the gap between theory and practice while improving employability in the technical and engineering sectors.
Applicants based in the Western Cape will be given preference.
About the Transnet Work Integrated Learning Programme
The Transnet WIL Trainee Programme provides hands-on training, structured mentorship, and real-world exposure to industry-related tasks. Participants will be placed within various departments where they will apply their academic knowledge while developing technical, professional, and workplace skills essential for career growth.
The programme runs for a fixed duration of 12 months.
Key Responsibilities and Duties
Task Execution
- Assist with specific projects within assigned departments or work streams
- Perform routine operational and technical tasks under supervision
- Support administrative duties, including documentation and reporting
Learning and Development
- Participate in training sessions, workshops, and mentorship programmes
- Shadow experienced professionals to gain industry insight
- Take part in problem-solving activities to strengthen analytical skills
Communication and Collaboration
- Engage with internal teams, customers, and suppliers to understand business requirements
- Provide regular progress updates on assigned tasks and projects
- Act as a point of contact for general queries and support
Research and Analysis
- Conduct research, data collection, and basic analysis to support business decisions
- Prepare reports and presentations using Microsoft Office tools
- Assist in continuous improvement and process optimisation initiatives
Compliance and Safety
- Adhere to Transnet’s policies, procedures, and safety regulations
- Maintain ethical and professional standards at all times
- Ensure confidentiality and integrity in the workplace
Minimum Requirements and Eligibility Criteria
To qualify for the Transnet Technical Work Integrated Learnership 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Matric certificate
- Completed S4–S5 theoretical coursework in one of the following fields:
- Electronics
- Electrical Engineering (Heavy Current)
- Mechanical Engineering
- South African citizenship
- Aged between 18 and 35 years
- No existing bursary obligation with another company
- Proof of institutional confirmation or most recent letter from the institution
- Certified copies of Matric certificate, academic record, and South African ID
- Preference will be given to Persons with Disabilities
