What to Expect: Dispensary Learnership Duties and Responsibilities

As a participant in the Dis-Chem Learnership 2025, you will receive structured, practical workplace training, allowing you to develop essential pharmaceutical and customer service skills. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and over-the-counter products
  • Preparing and compounding non-sterile medications following SOPs
  • Organising, unpacking, and merchandising pharmacy stock and dispensary shelves
  • Learning to interpret prescriptions within legal and ethical guidelines
  • Picking, packing, labelling, and verifying medications with accuracy
  • Monitoring stock levels, checking expiry dates, and ensuring inventory control
  • Following up with patients on prescription refills, tracking, and appointments
  • Supporting call centre operations, answering medical scheme and chronic medication queries
  • Providing health advice and guidance to customers
  • Reporting stock issues and assisting in the receiving process of new inventory

Required Skills and Competencies

To succeed in this learnership, applicants should possess the following core competencies:

Essential Skills:

  • Fluency in English and at least one South African official language
  • Strong time management, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills
  • Teamwork, accountability, and professional behavior
  • Computer literacy and basic numeracy

Advantageous Skills:

  • Previous experience in retail, FMCG, or Dis-Chem stores
  • Familiarity with pharmacy systems such as Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
  • Knowledge of complementary medicines and family planning products

Who Can Apply for the 2025 Dis-Chem Pharmacies Learnerships Program?

To qualify for the Dis-Chem Dispensary Support Learnership 2025, you must meet the following criteria:
