What to Expect: Dispensary Learnership Duties and Responsibilities
As a participant in the Dis-Chem Learnership 2025, you will receive structured, practical workplace training, allowing you to develop essential pharmaceutical and customer service skills. Your responsibilities will include:
- Assisting with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines and over-the-counter products
- Preparing and compounding non-sterile medications following SOPs
- Organising, unpacking, and merchandising pharmacy stock and dispensary shelves
- Learning to interpret prescriptions within legal and ethical guidelines
- Picking, packing, labelling, and verifying medications with accuracy
- Monitoring stock levels, checking expiry dates, and ensuring inventory control
- Following up with patients on prescription refills, tracking, and appointments
- Supporting call centre operations, answering medical scheme and chronic medication queries
- Providing health advice and guidance to customers
- Reporting stock issues and assisting in the receiving process of new inventory
Required Skills and Competencies
To succeed in this learnership, applicants should possess the following core competencies:
Essential Skills:
- Fluency in English and at least one South African official language
- Strong time management, attention to detail, and accuracy
- Excellent customer service and communication skills
- Teamwork, accountability, and professional behavior
- Computer literacy and basic numeracy
Advantageous Skills:
- Previous experience in retail, FMCG, or Dis-Chem stores
- Familiarity with pharmacy systems such as Unisolv, SAP, and E-Scripting
