This structured two-year programme is designed to equip candidates with the necessary skills and qualifications to become Provincial Traffic Inspectors. Successful applicants will complete a Traffic Officer Diploma at the Traffic Training College in Pietermaritzburg—all while earning a competitive salary.
KZN Traffic Officer Learnership 2025 Overview
- Position Title: Trainee Provincial Traffic Inspector
- Number of Posts: 200
- Location: KwaZulu-Natal Province
- Training Institution: Traffic Training College, Pietermaritzburg
- Stipend/Salary: Starting at R193,359 per annum
- Duration: 24 months (2 years)
Upon successful completion of the training programme, trainees will be deployed to Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) stations throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Trainees will be trained in all aspects of traffic law enforcement and road safety management, including:
- Enforcing road traffic, public transport, and safety legislation
- Conducting point duties and managing traffic flow
- Securing accident scenes and identifying high-risk areas
- Participating in speed monitoring and traffic policing operations
- Issuing traffic fines and executing lawful arrests
- Escorting abnormal loads and enforcing overload control measures
- Testing driver’s licenses and inspecting vehicle roadworthiness
- Supporting operations at DLTCs (Driver Licence Testing Centres) and VTSs (Vehicle Testing Stations)
- Performing visible policing, conducting roadblocks, and assisting motorists
- Handling administrative and compliance tasks, including firearm control and operational planning
Minimum Requirements
To qualify for the 2025 Traffic Officer Learnership Programme, applicants must:
- Hold a Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or NQF Level 4 equivalent qualification
- Possess a valid Code B driver’s license (manual transmission)
- Have no criminal record (SAP clearance required)
- Submit a medical certificate (not older than 3 months) confirming fitness for physical activity
- Be a South African citizen or permanent resident
- Be under the age of 35 at the time of enrolment
- Be considered a fit and proper person to serve in law enforcement
- Be willing to undergo a full medical examination (paid for by the state)
