The uMngeni-uThukela Water Learnerships Programme 2025 could be your gateway to a rewarding career in the Water and Waste Water Treatment industry.
About the Learnership Programme
The uMngeni-uThukela Water Training and Development Department, in collaboration with the Operations Division, is offering a one-year National Certificate in Water and Waste Water Treatment (NQF Level 2). This opportunity is specifically designed for 20 unemployed youth from uMkhanyakude District and uMdoni Local Municipality in KwaZulu-Natal, especially those from deep rural areas.
Participants will undergo intensive theoretical and practical training, including:
- Attending classes and workshops
- Completing a Portfolio of Evidence (POE)
- Gaining hands-on experience at operational water treatment plants located in Richards Bay and Jozini
Who Should Apply for the 2025 Water and Waste Water Treatment Learnership program?
If you meet the following requirements, this learnership could be the perfect fit:
Minimum Requirements:
- South African citizen
- Aged 18 to 35 years
- Unemployed and not currently enrolled in any tertiary institution
- Matric Certificate (Grade 12) with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Must reside in uMkhanyakude District or uMdoni Local Municipality
- Applicants with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply
- Not in possession of any qualification at NQF Level 5 or higher
Additional Requirements:
- Proof of physical home address (Letter from Traditional Authority for rural applicants – this will be verified)
- Certified copy of South African ID
- Mid-Term Matric School Report (Applicants must have completed Matric in the same district of residence)

Learnership Location:
Training and work experience will take place at water treatment facilities in the North East Region, including:
- Richards Bay
- Jozini Water Treatment Plant
